ここに収められた17曲は、キングがメンフィスのスタックス・レコードに所属していた1966〜68年の最も実り多い時期のものだ。スタックスのボスだったジム・スチュワートは、ストレートなブルースはスタックス特有のメンフィスのソウルには調和しないと考えたので、ブルース・アーティストとは契約したがらなかった。皮肉なことに、キングのシャープなギターの叫びと、スタックスの専属バンドだったブッカーT＆ザ・MGズのダイナミックなリズムの融合によって、キングはほかのブルースマンとは一線を画すことになった。このユニークな混成は次々と名曲を作り出した。ブッカー・T・ジョーンズのうねるようなピアノは「Laundromat Blues」を駆り立て、アル・ジャクソンのドラム・シャッフルは、「Crosscut Saw」を支えている。アンドリュー・ラヴ、ウェイン・ジャクソン、ジョー・アーノルドの猛烈なホーンは「Born Under a Bad Sign」にアクセントをつけている。キングの熟したメロウなヴォーカルは、ソウルフルな音楽に完璧にマッチしており、ドラマチックなギター・テクニックは突出している。（Marc Greilsamer, Amazon.com）
